What a journey it’s been…

Back in 2018, we had recently purchased a small farm in Duplin County and were so excited to settle into some acreage and enjoy a quiet life.  We had been fostering with a cattle dog rescue for a couple years and while we loved it and everyone we met, we quickly realized how large the need was for a local rescue that not only understood working dogs, but also wasn't constricted by breed characteristics.  From that moment on, we knew life wouldn't be so quiet, but we never imagined the beautiful chaos it would become.  We took the leap & started the paperwork to create Wagon Tails Farm Rescue.

What started as a hope and a prayer, with a few friends & family to support us when they could, has quickly blossomed into a passion project fueled by an incredible group of volunteers that have truly become our extended family.  This blog is dedicated to them, to our friends & family, to our adopters & anyone who has ever helped us along the way.  Because of y'all, we have hit a milestone we never would have thought possible - we have officially placed 1000 pets in their furever homes since our inception!

As we continue to grow and learn, we just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU.  No matter how small or large your contribution has been to this rescue, it has been an invaluable part of this labor of love.  Too often we hear "I wish I could do more" or "if I could, I would".  I just want to remind everyone who has done anything, has done so much!    So please, keep sharing, keep reacting, keep advocating - because you never know who you will reach.  If you can donate or foster or volunteer - please do!

Now it's time for us to dig in - Duplin County is behind the times when it comes to animal ownership - some of it is politics, some of it is "old habits" & quite frankly most of it is inaccessibility to affordable health care (or even knowing what the basic expected health care is).  So this year, our team is working hard to figure out how to help increase these options for pet owners.  We are working towards raising funds to be able to bring a mobile spay/neuter unit to Duplin County at least once this year - and hopefully continue to do so on a regular basis.  But we still need your help - so keep donating, fostering, adopting, volunteering, advocating, sharing, liking posts, wearing our merch, even just thinking about us.  Every little thing everyone does is how we got here.  And together, we will go even further.

Happy 2026 y'all, let's do this!

With so much love & gratitude from the Founders, Geri & Steve Romain
