Adoption Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I know if a pet is still available for adoption?

    • If a pet is on our website, we are still taking applications for said pet.  Our system automatically updates pets’ status in real time, so once they are adopted they will no longer be on our website.

  • What is the process for adopting a pet?

    • Wagon Tails Farm Rescue operates through a network of dedicated foster homes. Once you submit an official application online, our adoption counselors will review it, check references, and touch base with the applying adopter.  As long as those go well, they will forward to the foster home. The foster will reach out to you with additional questions & talk with you about what kind of home environment the specific pet needs to make sure it's a perfect match for everyone. Following this, the foster will schedule a Meet & Greet. Any current animals & humans in the home are required to attend to make sure everyone gets along and are a good fit.

  • How long does the adoption process take?

    • The adoption process can take anywhere from 2 to 5 days. This estimate depends on our volume of applications, the ease of checking references, and the foster’s availability for Meet & Greets.  A great way to expedite this process is to let your references know they will be contacted by a volunteer with our rescue so they’re inclined to answer quickly, and have current vet records handy for any pets living in the home.

  • What geographic areas do you serve?

    • While we are based in Beulaville, North Carolina, our adoption network extends across Eastern North Carolina, as well as parts of New York, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

  • Do my current pets need to be up to date on vaccinations?

    • We require that any resident pets be up to date on annual vaccines and wellness care before welcoming a new friend, based on your veterinarian’s recommendations. This requirement is solely to keep both current and new pets as healthy as possible.  Our Adoption Counselors are happy to talk more about vetting requirements while reviewing applications

  • Once I put in an application, does that mean I’ll get that pet?

    • It does not.  We do our best to match the needs and wants of adopters and foster pets to the best of our abilities.  Most of the time, we pair adopters with whom they’re interested in, but if the pet is adopted or doesn’t seem like a good fit, our Adoption Counselors may suggest another pet or two.  We do get multiple applications for most pets and do our best to keep everyone updated on the status of pet(s) applied for.

  • Does WTFR have a return policy?

    • Yes! We ask that adopters please reach out to us first if the adoption isn’t working out. If it’s within 14 days, you may be eligible for a refund. Please stay in contact with the pet’s foster home after adopting your new pet.  If it is after the two-week window, we will do our best to either find placement for your pet or to help you with rehoming them to the best of our abilities.
